The BI Norwegian Business School is an internationally recognised not-for-profit private foundation, located in Oslo. Established in 1943, BI provides one of Europe’s largest and most productive academic environments and has attained triple accreditation. BI campuses are located at six cities in Norway, with over 20,000 students and 340 faculty members. Specialist subjects include economics, management, finance and business strategies.BI collaborates academically on an international basis, inclusive of agreements with the Nanyang Technical University (NTU) in Singapore and Fudan University in Shanghai.
BI has also entered into student exchange agreements with more than 170 institutions in 45 different countries. One example of this is the very popular student exchange between BI and NTU. This programme provides for about 90 third year students from the NTU BSc Maritime Studies course to visit and study in Norway each year.
BI has been working together with Capt. Robert Gordon and SeaProf since 2007 in producing and presenting maritime training courses in Vietnam and Indonesia as well as the production of specialist shipping modules for NTU’s well-known MSc Maritime Transport postgraduate degree programme in Singapore. SeaProf also collaborates with BI to produce the now iconic “Key Elements of Shipping” course that has been run very successfully in Singapore twice each year since 2010 and is endorsed by the MPA’s Maritime Cluster Fund.

A prestigious prize is awarded each year by the Norwegian Business Association Singapore (NBAS) to an individual, company or institution which has distinguished itself by demonstrating a significant commitment to enhancing the bilateral trade, investment and business relations between Norway and Singapore. In 2014 the NBAS prize went jointly to the BI Norwegian Business School and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

SeaProf, are pleased to have been recognized as part of the BI and NTU collaboration. As maritime executive short course producers to BI in Singapore.

Hamburg’s Chamber of Commerce established HSBA in 2004 as a state-recognised educational institution and university. HSBA is fully accredited and offers Bachelors and Masters degrees in business by way of both dual study/work and part-time courses for more than 840 students. HSBA collaborates with more than 250 market leader companies that are actively involved in designing and developing the courses offered in order to ensure that they are constantly aligned with real business needs. The results being that HSBA graduates are well prepared for the requirements of business and enjoy excellent career opportunities in both the Hamburg and international market place.
In terms of maritime focus, HSBA offers both a BSc degree in Maritime Management as well as an MBA in Shipping. Professor Dr-Ing Orestis Schinas, Course Head and Director of Shipping at HSBA leads the maritime department. Prof. Schinas is also the senior editor and author of a new book titled HSBA Handbook on Ship Finance.


This book provided the impetus for collaboration between SeaProf and HSBA to create and produce a new Shipping Economics and Finance Masterclass that was held in May 2015 in Singapore. The success of this course has ensured that it will be repeated in 2016 and beyond and other new and innovative maritime executive education programmes are now being developed through further SeaProf/HSBA collaboration.
